Are you supposed to wear a bathing suit to a beach bonfire?

i live in california, i've never been to a bonfire and idk if i'm supposed to wear a bathingsuit or not ?Are you supposed to wear a bathing suit to a beach bonfire?
I generally wear a bikini with shirts and a shirt (like a halter top) over the bikini.

You can wear your suit under your clothes. But it will be dark out so you'll probably not swim. I wouldn't wear mine, but maybe you can keep it in your purse instead of wear it. You'll probably only end up walking in the water, so wear sandals.
A bikini top and shorts over bikini bottoms are all you need. Flip flops too. A shirt isn't necessary, and you'd be better off without one.
wear your bathing suit (but it's basically 'beach underwear'), shorts, tank, flip-flops and take a sweatshirt!
